Susie Leach Benefit

Benefit Planned in Memory of Longtime Exeter Business Owner
EXETER__When Susie Leach passed away suddenly last September it had a deep impact on Exeter’s downtown community.
For over 20 years, Leach welcomed customers and downtown business members to Billingsgate Deli on Water Street, which she opened in 1987 with her husband Craig. Now members of the downtown business community have come together to organize a benefit in Leach’s memory. The Susan Leach Memorial Concert and Auction to Benefit the New Hampshire SPCA is planned for Thursday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Exeter Town Hall. The event will feature music by Exeter’s own group The Rusted Nuts and a benefit auction where guests can bid to help fund the care and food for animals at the NHSPCA.
The idea for the benefit started with downtown business owner Nancy Phillips who was then joined with the planning by her husband Elliott Berkowitz, Rich Bowles and Steve Brennan, Brian and Lisa Lortie, Dana DeNiro of Luna Chics as well as Dan and Linda Jones, of Jones Law Office. The group all work downtown, knew Leach and wanted to do something in her memory.
“Susie’s death had such an unbelievable effect on all of us in the downtown who knew her,” Berkowitz said. “She was truly part of the fabric of the downtown community. We hope this special night will be not only a chance for those who knew Susie to honor her memory but also a chance for them to support an area organization that was dear to her.”
The benefit event will include two 45 minute music sets by The Rusted Nuts with a benefit auction between sets.
Tickets to the event are $20 and can be purchased at Exeter Music, Water Street Bookstore, LunaChics and the New Hampshire SPCA in Stratham. For more information please contact 658-0004.
