The Calendar Says Thursday is 1st Day of Spring

The only ice left on the river is down by the PEA boat house we found on a walk Sunday morning. The gulls have taken hold like a small army. And the ice is really, truly breaking up.

(I think that means melting, knock on wood)

I have no idea what they small brown critters are but suspect they are some sort of seed pack

And there a glimpse of green--come out spring!!

Burn Baby Burn

It was time for a little burn Saturday night to chase the snow away.

(And yes, you need a permit for this.) Our neighbor Dan (shown here) gets a wee bit excited for these neighborhood events and was out at the crack of dawn Saturday clearing snow away from the pile with his super tractor. Unfortunately his plan backfired and we were left with a pit of mud... The "Before" Shot

Two Dead Rats, What Does it Mean?

I was grooving along today in my crazy schedule. Willie down for a nap, time to clean horse stalls and get a little exercise. As I went to dump Penny the horse's water bucket to clean it out, eeew yuck> two dead rats came flying out. I gave them a ceremonial burial on the manure pile. But then got to thinking, I'm sure there's some symbolism or something to finding two dead rats. Is it an omen?

All I could find about rats was this:

RATS
Sailors believe that if all the Rats leave a ship then it is destined to sink on its very next journey. One sailing superstition forbids the mention of the name Rat whilst on board ship.

So a rat in a bucket? Who knows. My own take it means "He who finds two dead rats in bucket of water on semi warm winter day gets bad smell."

Living on the Edge... Not

I was going to have a moment of living on the edge today. You know desperate stay at home mommies go wild. Alas this snowy winter has done it again. I was all set to take part in a test drive of this snappy little number at the grand opening of the new Porsche and Audi dealerships in Stratham. Instead of test rides for those lucky enough to get the invite, we had to listen to the same old ribbon cutting ceremony. Oh well, a girl can dream. So if I sell a million copies of the moose book, maybe this could be my new ride? How would it look with a car seat?

Let's Get Out the Vote!

I went out to vote this morning and it was like a ghost town. Hardly anyone showing up to vote. Let's get out the vote people. We have a contested selectman's race with 4 really interesting candidates which is worthy of getting out to vote for. I was asked if the newspaper had made a prediction about the outcome of this race and I have to say I can't hazard a guess. I think Bobby Aldrich has a lot of support, as does incumbent Bill Campbell. But then Matt Quandt enters the mix and he is usually the top vote getter in the state rep election counts (and has support from the old boys in town, aka Bucky Rowe et al) and Tanis has the background in the issue that seems to be the most on people's minds these days, water and sewer. So who knows. The only thing I can decide on is: Best earmuffs--Bobby Aldrich. Cool shades--Matt Quandt
